Tokyo, October 9, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) responsible for business operations in Japan, announced today that it would release “Wireless Keypad” (CECHZK1JP) for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) and USB supported “AC Adaptor” (CECHZA1 J) for charging PS3 peripherals*1 on Thursday, December 18th, 2008, in Japan at a recommended retail price of 5,500 yen and 2,800 yen (both including tax), respectively.

This new “Wireless Keypad,” designed to fit on both SIXAXIS® and DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controllers, offers comfortable text input with the support of roman letter entry for Japanese typing . With this new peripheral, users will be able to input text right in the palm of their hands with out using the on-screen keyboard, and can enjoy text chat on upcoming PS3 titles to be released this holiday seasons including LittleBigPlanet, available October 30, 2008, Resistance 2, available November 13, 2008, and SOCOM: CONFRONTATION available October 30, 2008*2. Users can also enjoy comfortable text chat on services such as PlayStation®Home scheduled to launch its Open Beta Service within this calendar year.

By utilizing the newly announced “AC Adaptor,” users will be able to charge the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller by simply using the adaptor and without charging it through PS3. Also by adopting two USB ports, it enables users to charge another peripheral such as “Wireless Keypad” or “Wireless Headset” for PS3 while charging the wireless controller on the other port.

SCEJ will deploy various measures to meet users’ demand and will continue to expand the PS3 platform with enhanced line-up of PS3 systems and peripheral products.
